By O’star Eze

A non-governmental organisation, Ishimiri Ogbunka Global Foundation, recently, gifted the people of Agbala village, Ogbunka in Orumba South local government area of Anambra state with their first ultramodern bus stop.

The foundation, championed by Engr. Richard Nzodilichukwu Okonkwo, also handed over 2 new motor bikes to the community’s town crier and youth leader. A public address system was given to a repentant youth for evangelism. One other person also received N45, 000; five persons got N29,000 each and another five individual got N5000 each.

Speaking after the official handover of the gift items to the community, the chairman of Orumba South local government area, Barrister Raymond Onyeagu, commended the director of the foundation for the gesture.

Barrister Onyeagu noted that the bus stop shelter was the first ultramodern bus stop in Ogbunka community.

He said that the state government holds persons like Engr Okonkwo to very high esteem, “who assist the government in her bid to provide basic amenities to people at the grassroots.”

On his part, the President General of Ogbunka community, Hon. Emmanuel Okoro, disclosed that Engr Okonkwo had been one of the Ogbunka sons of the community, who had continued to reach out and touch lives of the people.

“Before now, it used to be difficult to wait for bus, kekenapep or okada along this road because of rainfall or sun. We had no single shelter on the road of Ogbunka,” he said.

The youth leader of Agbala village, Mr. Clement Nnebe, and the village town crier, Mr. Chukwuemelie Okoli, recounted how it used to be difficult serving the village on foot. “With this new bike, my work is made easier,” they said.

Earlier, during the officially presentation of the structure and other items to the community, Engr Okonkwo, the director of Ishi-mmiri Ogbunka Foundation, said that he was only fulfilling the pact he made with God early in life, to use whatever God gives him for the betterment of his community.

Okonkwo, who was represented by his elder brother, Mr. Ugonna Francis Okonkwo, said, “I promised God when I was about to travel out of the country that if he blessed the work of my hands, I would set up a foundation in my hometown through which I would be adding value to lives.”

Cultural dances by various dance troupes formed high point of the occasion.
