Zaniab Aliyu finally released from detention in Saudi Arabia

Nigeria Mission in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, April 30, disclosed that the detained Zainab Habib Aliyu has been released.
Zainab's release came after President Muhammadu Buhari directed the attorney general of the federation to take necessary action on her detention by Saudi Arabia.
It was learnt she was falsely accused of drug peddling in Saudi Arabia and was arrested in December 2018 with Tramadol, a banned substance.
Investigations by the Nigerian government have since revealed that the drug was planted in Zainab’s luggage by a cartel that specialises in planting drugs in the bags of unsuspecting travelers.
See the tweet below:
The disclosure was made by the senior special assistant to the president on foreign relations and diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
According to social media user identified as Abdulkadir Nasidi, Aliyu was wrongly arrested in Saudi Arabia for drug-related issue and is currently in detention.
The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central senatorial district at the upper chamber, Shehu Sani, said the National Assembly could move action to highlight Aliyu's case if her parents could send a petition to the legislature.

Eleven others were also said to be serving various jail terms for drug trafficking in the kingdom, while another suspected trafficker was awaiting trial. The 23 death row inmates could not be named for “diplomatic and sensitivity” reasons.
According to a source, unless President Muhammadu Buhari intervenes, the death toll could be higher. Already, a Nigerian woman, Kudirat Adeshola Afolabi, was executed by the Saudi authorities about two weeks ago.
The late response of the ministry of foreign affairs to a memo from the Nigerian consul general, Ambassador MS Yunusa, is believed to have contributed to the execution.
